Through my work, I’ve supported several non-profits, but Oikotan gave me the opportunity to fulfill a deeper calling—to help our younger generation connect with their Bengali roots. By celebrating our culture and traditions, we can create the same joy, pride, and sense of togetherness that made our childhood festivals so special.
The land that has given us the opportunity to flourish, both personally and professionally, inspires us to give back to the community we call home. “Giving back” was the founding principle that brought me to this organization and continues to inspire us to serve selflessly, without expecting anything in return.
Through volunteering, I’ve found a sense of purpose and belonging. It
gives me immense joy to be part of a group that works selflessly to
promote our culture, bring people together, and create moments of
togetherness and happiness. Every event we organize, every challenge
we overcome, every planning session behind the scene reminds me of
the power of teamwork and the warmth of community.
What began as a small idea among friends grew
into a non-profit dedicated to celebrating Bengali and
Indian culture while serving the Minnesota community.
As a community volunteer, I believe in giving back and making a positive difference. Volunteering has allowed me to support others, connect with diverse individuals, and strengthen my commitment to building a united and compassionate community.
I am truly honored to be part of Oikotan. It is inspiring to join an
organization that not only celebrates and promotes the richness of
Bengali culture in Minnesota but also dedicates itself to supporting
meaningful causes within our community. And for me, the most
important part is doing it all with joy, fun, and laughter.
I have always been passionate about volunteering, often combining it with my love for photography. Through my work with various non-profits, I’ve found joy in capturing and contributing to moments that bring people together. With Oikotan, I hope to help recreate the magic of Bengali culture, traditions, and celebrations for our community and the next generation.
My 15+ years of serving the Bengali community have taught me that our true strength lies in unity, shared values, and collective purpose. I am inspired by our youth’s desire to connect with their roots and our community’s shared commitment to creating a lasting sense of belonging.
Living far from Bengal, I often missed the vibrant traditions and warmth of home. That longing inspired Oikotan—to bring the essence of Bengal to Minnesota, connect our children with their heritage, and create a community where Bengalis can come together and feel at home.
Being part of Oikotan as a Board Member has been a humbling and fulfilling journey. It feels less like an organization and more like a family united by a shared purpose. I believe true service is selfless, and even the smallest acts of kindness can create a lasting impact.
